Kiswahili Course Descriptions:

379.151-152 Beginning Kiswahili
This introductory course presents some of the basic grammatical, phonological, and sociological elements of the Kiswahili language.  Students are exposed to different facets of the cultures of eastern Africa (especially Tanzanian and Kenyan). The focus in the course is on vocabulary, which is developed through the use of pictures, dialogues, question and answer exercises, audio and/or video tapes.  3 credits

379.251-252 Intermediate Kiswahili
This course places emphasis on conversational skills as well as reading, writing and composition skills. It includes analyses of the culture, history and socio aspects of this linguistic group. Resources in the Language Lab are incorporated in the course. Prerequisite: 379.151-152 or permission of instructor.
