English for International TAs
Course Descriptions:
370.600 Oral Skills for
International Teaching Assistants
Through a variety of communication activities, international TAs who
are non-native speakers of English work to improve fluency, accuracy, and
intelligibility in speaking and increase listening comprehension in
interactions with undergraduates. Additional language lab practice
reinforces classwork.
370.601 Communication
Strategies in the American Classroom
Prospective international teaching assistants work to improve their
English language skills while familiarizing themselves with the culture of
the American classroom and effective teaching strategies. Several times
during the semester students are filmed practice teaching and then meet
individually with the instructor to analyze their progress. Open to
international TAs and other full-time graduate students in Arts and
Sciences and Engineering.
These courses are open only to graduate students in Arts & Sciences and
Engineering. For Non Credit ESL Courses for adults who want to improve their
academic and professional speaking and writing skills, please see the
English as a Second Language Program for Professionals.
